Dollar Store

Create Your Own

This is one of my favorite trips this year: going to the Dollar Store.  This gave us the opportunity to work on our community safety and money management skills.  It was a good exercise walking to the store and coming back to school on a cool, cloudy day.  Everyone had a great time.

Do you love comics?

May 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

I love comic books. It’s good to see people recognizing the educational values of comics and incorporating them into their curriculum:

If you have software like Comic Life (http://plasq.com/), digital camera, and laminator (optional), your can just about turn any of your daily activities into comic books. It is fun to look at yourself or your daily activities in comic book style.

If you are like my students and me who love to draw, you can check out this online drawing program. My students and I love to draw our own characters using this program. Thank you, Michael and Sandy.

Now, who can name this year’s upcoming blockbuster movies that are based on comic books?

I just opened up another blog. This is for my students to put their artwork, movies, pictures, poems, music, anything they would like to share with their friends and family. It is another option for student to do in their leisure. This can be a time capsule where they can visit, remember and share great memories from school…  You will find the link to “our days” blog under Blogroll —>

Community Signs

May 4, 2008 · 1 Comment

My students with the assistance of the OT/PT (Occupational/Physical Therapists) department and Travel Training have been working on a Community Safety Unit. Last Friday, I had the chance to take my students out for a walk around the school campus and have them take pictures of community signs. We had so much fun.

See if you can name these signs. The slides automatically change every 5 seconds but if you can’t wait, move the mouse to the center and it will bring up the control panel. Enjoy!

I also would like to thank Anne Marie for the great idea! If you have not been to her blog, check out her site. She has a lot of cool things going for her class: http://annemarie80.edublogs.org/

As for the follow up activity:
Create your own signs in the site below. It’s very cool:

bulletin board

April 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

bulletin1.png

I have been moving a lot. Even at the last two schools I have been to, I had to change my room in the middle of the year at least 1-2 times due to the school renovations. One of the challenges I faced moving from place to place or classroom to classroom is figuring out how to decorate the bulletin boards. Each room has different structure and what worked before does not work anymore. I am glad I found this site through bloglines.com.  http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

You can even download software for free from the website to enlarge your images/photos. The reason I decided to use these for bulletin boards is simple: 1)my students love to see themselves in pictures and 2)you can turn each enlarged pictures into puzzle activities. So parents, students, and teachers, if you get stuck in decorating your room, how about trying this out?

Download Video: Posted by leelefever at TeacherTube.com.

This movie has been out for a while and you can find it on many educational blogs. I just wanted to post it here for those who are new to blogging such as myself. It gives a nice overview of blogging and it is cool.

Picassohead

My students love to go to art. The main reasons they love their art class is one, they have the best art teacher and two, art lets them express their thoughts and feelings that words can not describe. For their blog projects, I would like my students to learn self-expression by creating something unique using the mediums they find on this blog, reflecting on their work, and giving feedback to others. I am happy to present another cool tool I found: http://www.mrpicassohead.com/create.html
Go check it out and draw like Picasso today!

zoo adventure

April 21, 2008 · 4 Comments

I went to the Bronx Zoo with my daughter Sun over spring vacation.  Since my class will be taking a trip to zoo soon, I thought it is good idea to go there and check it out myself. Maybe I will be reimbursed by my field trip committee for this trip. Check out the movie!
